PROMAX

Excellent Ballistics Protection
Best in Class Mechanical Properties
Lower Production Costs

High Fatigue Strength Limit, Air Corrosion Resistant, Military Protection Plate

The key to protecting any person, vehicle or building is to understand that the protective structure needs to be designed to withstand 'tomorrow’s' threat levels. To stay on the safe side, we have to stretch the limits of what is possible and go far beyond specifications and today’s threat levels.  Practically speaking, this can be better achieved if customers have access to the highest level of protective steels at a far more attractive price point than incumbent products from the likes of SSAB, ThyssenKrupp and ArcelorMittal.

Giflo’s PROMAX (EN 10029) protection steels with hardnesses from 400 to 600HBW+, leading yield to tensile strength ratios and impressive formability and weldability allow the design of fully protected armored vehicles with optimized weight per unit area plus options for building protection, police vehicles, security vans, facades, firing ranges and more.

Giflo’s PROMAX protection plate is the result of over 30 years of product research and development.  Giflo’s R&D has focused on using its unique technology to produce industry leading protective steels at a lower price point. Giflo’s unique technology encompasses the following advantages:

  • Utilizes significantly lower levels of expensive elements such as nickel, molybdenum and chromium;

  • Contains lower carbon levels to reduce cost and increase workshop performance (the low carbon content makes them easier to weld and with the use of electrodes with low hydrogen content the risk of cold cracking is minimized);

  • No quenching required;

  • Includes copper to increase air corrosion resistance;

  • Delivers class leading mechanical properties, including yield to ultimate tensile strength ratios (YS/UTS) and elongation percentages to enhance engineering design parameters;

  • Ability to produce our ultra-high strength steels within “mid-tech” steel mills as opposed to requiring production partners to invest capital to replicate SSAB style facilities with four high rolling mills capable of extreme forces.  By enabling “swing” production, avoiding expensive capital commitments and enabling in-country production, Giflo is able to achieve lower production costs and pass through the savings.

  • Giflo is able to produce thicker steels where the cross-section strength distribution of large sections is homogeneous and identical at both the edges and the middle.  Heavy thicknesses can avoid piling of medium thicknesses and eliminate contact layer reactions during projectile penetration; and

  • The significance of Giflo’s technology is demonstrated by its ability to significantly pass international ballistics standards even without vacuum degassing.  That being said, all PROMAX steels are sold in a vacuum degassed specification which adds circa 3-5% additional baseline ballistics resistance.
